warkworth

Shortlisted - NZIA RESENE LOCAL AWARD FOR ARCHITECTURE 2004 Nestled amongst mature Pongas,in the heart of Warkworth, this home was built with family in mind. Designed as a series of slick pavilions, built of glass, timber and dynamic roof forms, the planning is casual and simplistic, offering a relaxed lifestyle. North facing, the house fully opens up in summer allowing parents to watch children while relaxing in the family room. The kitchen is the backbone of the house, mediating between formal and informal spaces and opening to the alfresco pool areas. The childrens wing is separated from the main areas by a wide corridor. Flanked on one side by full height glass , it forms a dialogue with the surrounding bush. The restricted palette of materials and colours give the house a consistant and contemporary minimalist feeling through out, reflecting a New Zealand lifestyle and the Northland climate.
