tongariro ski club
The Tongariro Ski Club, Whakapapa Village, Mt Ruapehu, is one of the oldest clubs on the mountain. The original lodge was built in stages over the years by club members. After many years of club use a total rebuild was required, keeping in mind the incorporation of modern facilities with club traditions.
The existing building was demolished to its foundations and totally rebuilt. Some original features were retained. One such, is the iconic stone chimney with its distinctive red skier, originally hand crafted by a club member. While practical and utilitarian, so essential in these extremely harsh conditions, the interior is contemporary New Zealand, open planned to provide a relaxed and welcoming retreat for members and guests alike.
