the drake offices
While unashamedly contemporary this 'L' shaped building is designed to wrap and frame the much loved and historically protected Victorian corner hotel 'The Drake'. The Drake Offices are built to the highest quality of both design and materials. The building, in spite of an element of mixed use (with
the ground floor being retail) and a predetermined plan shape, achieved a Four Star Greenstar rating.
The vertical and horizontal rhythms of the historic building were identified and echoed in the new building. The new does not denigrate the old, but instead honours it. The streetscape is improved and the neighbourhood has becomes richer for the cohesiveness of the new work.
