matarangi
A monopitched roof is the unifying element in the design of this coastal property at Matarangi Beach. In its graceful gesture the roof form acknowledges the sensitive forest and dune landscape into which the house has been inserted. Conceptually the house 'floats' on the edge of the cliff face to capture the full splendour and power of the ocean below. The pivotal aim of the design was to craft a building that sits lightly in its landscape, so as a result, from certain angles the house seems to be perched at the brink of 'lift off'. In the brief the city based clients requested a casual retreat from their busy lives in the corporate world. In this single level holiday home they have discovered the peace and seclusion they seek. Open planning affords the family ample space and openness to relax and meticulous detailing allows the kitchen island bench to extend onto the deck, thus emphasising the relationship between inside and out. A slick louver canopy hovering above completes this space for evening entertaining. Leuschke Group Ltd Registered architects, Auckland, New Zealand |
